Maruyama Park is a large public park located between the always popular Higashiyama District and Yasaka Shrine. Given its size, the park can be approached from multiple directions however most visitors enter via through the gate of Yasaka Shrine – which effectively sits inside the park – or along the earthen-walled streets leading from Higashiyama. Popular year-round, the park reaches its peak in early April, when Kyoto residents gather beneath the cherry blossom trees to celebrate hanami (flower viewing) with friends and family.
